The four major transferable points currencies each have different airline and hotel partners. Here is how to choose the right card based on where you actually want to go.

Transferable Points Guide 2026: Chase vs Amex vs Capital One vs Citi

Four credit card companies dominate the transferable points landscape in 2026: Chase (Ultimate Rewards), American Express (Membership Rewards), Capital One (Miles), and Citi (ThankYou Points). Each has a different set of transfer partners, and choosing the right currency determines which flights and hotels you can access.

Chase Ultimate Rewards

Best for: United Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Hyatt hotels

Transfer partners (full 1:1 ratio):

Airlines: United, Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Air France/KLM, Iberia, Southwest, Emirates

Hotels: Hyatt, IHG, Marriott

Why Chase is best for Asia: Singapore Airlines Business Class is bookable with KrisFlyer miles (transferred from Chase) at 62,500 miles New York–Bali or 100,000 miles round-trip. The Chase–Singapore transfer is consistently the highest value in the transferable points ecosystem.

Why Chase is best for luxury hotels: Hyatt transfers 1:1 from Chase. A Park Hyatt Tokyo room costs $800/night cash or 35,000 Hyatt points. Chase Sapphire Reserve earns 3x on travel and dining — the points accumulate fast.

The flagship card: Chase Sapphire Reserve ($550/year, $300 travel credit = effective $250). 3x travel and dining. 60,000 point sign-up bonus typical.

American Express Membership Rewards

Best for: Delta, Japan Airlines (ANA), Air Canada, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic

Transfer partners:

Airlines: Delta, ANA, Air Canada Aeroplan, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Air France/KLM, Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Alitalia, Finnair

Hotels: Hilton, Marriott

Why Amex is best for Japan: ANA Business Class Tokyo to New York is 88,000 ANA miles (transferred from Amex). That is 8–10 cents per point value on a $4,000+ ticket.

Why Amex is best for Virgin Atlantic: Virgin Atlantic's Upper Class has sweet spot pricing that uses points from multiple partners. The New York–London route via Virgin can be booked at extremely favorable rates compared to British Airways or AA.

The flagship card: Amex Platinum ($695/year, $695+ in annual credits). 5x on flights and hotels booked through Amex. 100,000+ point welcome bonus typical.

Capital One Miles

Best for: Turkish Airlines, Air Canada, Singapore Airlines, Avianca LifeMiles

Transfer partners:

Airlines: Air Canada, Turkish Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Avianca, Air France/KLM, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Etihad, Finnair, Qantas, TAP Air Portugal, Wyndham

Hotels: Wyndham

Why Capital One is underrated: Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles has unique sweet spot pricing — particularly for business class to Africa, the Middle East, and South/Central America — that other currencies cannot access.

The flagship card: Capital One Venture X ($395/year, $300 travel credit = effective $95). 2x on all purchases. 75,000 mile sign-up bonus typical.

Citi ThankYou Points

Best for: Turkish Airlines, Avianca, Air France/KLM, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific

Transfer partners:

Airlines: Turkish, Avianca, Air France/KLM, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, JetBlue, Qatar Airways, Thai Airways, Virgin Atlantic

Hotels: None strong

Why Citi is best for Qatar Airways: Qatar Avios (via British Airways partner) is bookable with Citi points. Qatar Business Class is among the best in the world; Citi offers a path that other currencies don't as cleanly.

The Right Strategy: Earn Multiple Currencies

The optimal setup for most serious points travelers is one Chase card + one Amex card. This provides coverage across United, Singapore, Hyatt, Delta, ANA, British Airways, Air France/KLM, and most other major programs. The annual fee economics work out positive when the credits are used.
